Orosei originated in Roman times and experienced the height of development at the time of the Giudicati. Its town center teems with churches, 17 of which are consecrated: among them, in the central square we find the Parish of San Giacomo, one of the most important Baroque expressions on the island, which houses several wooden statues and an interesting baptistery inside. Also worth visiting in town is the Guiso Museum, housed in the Palatzos Vetzos, which holds a large collection of 18th-century theaters from all over Europe.
But Orosei is rightly known for the marvelous beaches of its gulf: in addition to the Marina of the same name not far from the town, just 11 km away we find Cala Liberotto, a bay with emerald waters embraced by clear rocks that are very striking at sunset. Behind it is the pond of sos Alinos, populated by resident and migratory birds, while to the north a promontory separates it from the wonderful Cala Ginepro, another pearl of the Gulf of Orosei.
Driving along the coast, theOasis of Bidderosa is definitely worth a stop, a true paradise formed by 5 coves of white sand framed by junipers, holm oaks and pines. Here from May to the end of October, entry for cars and motorcycles is limited so as to preserve this unique and precious oasis. Instead, you can access it freely on foot, by bicycle or by swimming starting from Cala Ginepro. Finally, lovers of trekking, hiking and nature will find in the territory of Orosei some extraordinary places in which to walk among intoxicating scents and landscapes.
